Construction Industry's e-Envoy Elected to BASDA Board of Directors
Once described by Construction News as "the construction industry's e-Envoy", Causeway's Director of Business Solutions, Tim Cole, has been elected as a member of the BASDA Board of Directors.
BASDA is the Business Application Software Developers' Association, a member-driven not-for-profit organisation. Members benefit by sharing knowledge and expertise and by working as one voice to address strtegic issues that affect the business software industry.
Kevin Hart, Chairman of BASDA (and Strategic Alliances Manager, Sage UK & Ireland), commented:
"I'm delighted to welcome Tim onto the board of BASDA. Tim is already making a terrific contribution through chairing our eBusiness Special Interest Group and such experience, along with his work in pushing the boundaries of application integration within Causeway Technologies, as well as having previously run an IT trade association, make him an excellent addition to the BASDA Board of Directors."
Kevin continues: "Tim lives the right BASDA values, including devoting time to promoting the wider interests of BASDA members within Government and European initiatives. I am confident that Tim's experience and approach will strengthen BASDA's focus and capability on delivering important value to our members and, so, further our brand position."
Tim has worked over the last 15 years to bring the benefits of e-business to industry. Whilst working as Regional General Manager within a major UK Material Supplier, Tim identified the benefits available from integrating transaction processes between buyers and suppliers. In 1994, Tim set up his own business and established CITE (Construction Industry Trading Electronically) which brought together over 200 leading companies focussed on achieving these benefits. During this time, Tim was involved in national and international eBusiness initiatives, including the development of data exchange standards and protocols spanning construction, banking and government sectors.
To help convey the opportunities available, Tim wrote the book Electronic Communication in Construction - Achieving Commercial Advantage which was published in 2000 by Thomas Telford and was later a contributing author to a book called E-business in Construction published by Wiley-Blackwell in 2008.
Tim subsequently joined Causeway Technologies to support the practical delivery of e-business solutions, culminating in the launch of Tradex, which now enables thousands of companies to exchange documents, such as invoices and orders without the need to send paper copies or re-key information.
In addition to his role on the Board of Directors, Tim is Chairman of the BASDA eBusiness Special Interest Group, the founder of the Hub Alliance and a Council member of the Network of Construction Collaboration Software Developers Association NCCTP.
Tim comments:
"I am very pleased to accept this role and to work with the other directors and members of BASDA to help in delivering the collective benefits that cannot be achieved by companies acting alone. In the current economic climate, there is no shortage of opportunities and challenges that will benefit from a collaborative approach. BASDA is well positioned to help its members influence the key agenda topics of the day and deliver best practice services. One issue close to my heart is to unlock the time, cost and environmental savings available through ever-closer integration between supply chain applications. On behalf of BASDA, I am already working with a number of other trade associations to seek ways to influence government policy around the eInvoicing agenda. I look forward to working with the other BASDA directors as we seek ways to extend the value returned to members".
