CSCS Smartcard made at TfL site
As the sole provider of application licenses on the new CSCS SmartCard, Causeway is pleased to hear that TfL’s upgrade of Tottenham Court Road tube station will be the first project to enforce these new competency cards.
Introduced in January 2010, the SmartCards improve site security, by preventing holders of fraudulent cards gaining access to the site. Furthermore, the cards greatly reduce the time spent on validity checks and can provide access to training records and other business data as required. Causeway CEO Phil Brown comments, “The efficiency benefits of a single industry wide SmartCard are vast, with a wide range of applications now becoming possible. Causeway are pleased to be part of the CSCS SmartCard initiative and are working with other contractors to define other uses of the SmartCard technology.”
For the first time, all site-based staff on the Tottenham Court Road tube station project will be required to carry a SmartCard: “The old cards are gradually being phased out and you can’t buy them anymore, so contractors are pushing to fully engage with the new technology.” said a spokesperson for CSCS. VINCI Construction UK/BAM Nuttall project director Jez Haskins agreed: “Using CSCS SmartCards makes sense on many levels, so we are keen to see the benefits they bring at Tottenham Court Road in order to determine how to introduce them onto other sites.”
CSCS chief executive Brian Adams said, “Working together with Causeway we expect the SmartCard to go from strength to strength.” With the Tottenham Court Road project being the first to enforce this innovative technology, Causeway look forward to a continued uptake of the Smartcards across other projects.
